Theresa Merk Named Head Coach of SC Freiburg Women's Soccer Team

A New Era Begins for the Bundesliga Women

The SC Freiburg women's soccer team has announced the appointment of Theresa Merk as their new head coach. The 32-year-old will take over the reins from Jens Scheuer, who left the club at the end of the 2022-23 season to join Bayern Munich.

A Promising Future

Merk is a former German international who played for SC Freiburg for three seasons before retiring in 2020. She has been working as an assistant coach with the club's women's team since 2021.

Merk's appointment is a significant step forward for women's soccer in Germany. She is the first woman to coach a team in the Bundesliga, the top tier of women's soccer in Germany.

Merk is excited about the opportunity to lead the SC Freiburg women's team.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach this team," Merk said. "I have been working with the players for the past year, and I believe we have a lot of potential. I am excited to see what we can achieve together."

SC Freiburg is confident that Merk is the right person to lead the team to success.

Merk will officially take over as head coach of the SC Freiburg women's soccer team on July 1, 2023.
